Collecting Information on the profile of service users
- Explain why you need the information.
- Assure people of confidentiality.
- If people are reluctant to give you
profile information try and find out why. They may,
for example, be concerned that you might pass the information onto
other agencies.
- If possible, allow a relationship of
trust to develop with the user before asking for profile information.
- Never guess profile information - it
should always be self-reported.
- Where possible allow people to describe their
characteristics themselves rather than asking them to say
which of your categories they fit into.
- Where appropriate take a sample.
